The Cartoon Museum is the first museum of its kind displaying various categories of cartoons from political cartoons to comic strips from the 18th century to the present day. The museum was opened on the 23rd of February by the Duke of Edinburgh. The Cartoon Museum opened mission declaring that it was "dedicated to preserving the best of British cartoons, caricatures, comics and animation, and to establishing a museum with a gallery, archives and innovative exhibitions to make the creativity of cartoon art past and present, accessible to all for the purposes of education, research and enjoyment.
Since that faithful day the museum has collected over 1500 exhibits as well as a library that is host to over 5000 books and 6000 comics. The museum’s archives are host to the first edition of both the Dandy and the Beano both comics are extremely rare and are still the same timeless classics today as were in 1938.
